Mongolia is one of several Central and East Asian nations that joined the Fédération Internationale de Pétanque et Jeu Provençal (FIPJP) well after the sport's earlier establishment elsewhere in Asia. The Mongolian Petanque Federation is based in the capital Ulaanbaatar and became a FIPJP member in 2012, seven years before fellow Central/East Asian member Kazakhstan's 2019 membership.

A correction to a claim this profile previously made: earlier versions dated that earlier Asian wave to a 1997 founding of an "Asian Pétanque and Sports Boules Confederation" by Cambodia, Israel, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Mauritius, Seychelles, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. FIPJP's own PDF leaves the "Président" field blank and instead lists a correspondence contact, Bayarsaikhan.A, described in the document as secretary general. petanque-world.com's independent federation directory, by contrast, lists this same name, Bayarsaikhan.A, directly as the federation's president - the two sources disagree on the exact title, so this profile reports both readings rather than picking one.
