Obut Black Jack

Bending down to pick up the jack at the end of every "mène" adds up over a long tournament day, and the Obut Black Jack solves that by letting you lift it straight off the ground with the same magnetic boule-lifter you use for your boules. It has been on the FIPJP's approved list since 2013, though it is worth knowing it is a genuine outlier among legal jacks: at 22g it exceeds the standard 10-18g weight limit, and being paramagnetic would normally disqualify a jack under the rule that jacks "may not be paramagnetic." Its approval rests on a specific technicality: that rule was written to stop players painting a jack with a magnetic additive, and Obut's jack is dyed through in bulk rather than painted, so it was judged not to fall under the ban. It remains legal to use, but if you play in strict club competitions, it is worth checking your local federation has not issued its own restriction before relying on it as your only jack.
