Pétanque in Latvia

Pétanque in Latvia is organized under the Latvijas petanka sporta federācija (Latvian Pétanque Sports Federation, LPSF), a member of both the CEP (Confédération Européenne de Pétanque) and the FIPJP (Fédération Internationale de Pétanque et Jeu Provençal). The federation runs a full domestic calendar of national championships and regional tournaments and regularly sends players to CEP European Championships.

Federation

Sources disagree on the exact founding year. The federation's own history page describes the sport's organized start in July 2008, when two clubs, Rīgas Petanka and Boule, registered independently of each other, followed by the Latvian federation's admission to the CEP and FIPJP in November 2008. A separate account states the federation was formally established in 2009, the same year it joined the international federation. Both dates are given here rather than resolved, since we could not independently confirm which is authoritative.

An earlier version of this profile named Juris Silovs (also rendered "Juris Silvos" in FIPJP's own nation directory) as the federation's president. Per the LPSF's own board page, that is now outdated: Kristaps Stepiņš has served as president since 13 March 2025, elected alongside board members Edgars Silovs and Ando Paļeļunas on the same date, joined by Agita Puriņa (board member since 3 July 2024) and Ieva Anna Gulbe (since 3 February 2026 - the same Ieva Anna Gulbe who partners Lilita Dimarco in the federation's 2026 European Championship women's doubles pairing, see International Results below).

Its registered office is at Inženieru iela 93-56, Ventspils, LV-3601 (registration No. 40008143066), reflecting the federation's Ventspils roots alongside its founding clubs in Rīga and Salaspils. No general office phone line or fixed office hours are published; the federation's day-to-day contact point is its board members' individual emails and phones listed above.

Clubs

The LPSF's own members directory ("Biedri") and Latvian company-registry records, cross-checked across two independently-worded searches, list five long-established affiliated clubs plus one newer addition:

• Rīgas Petanka (registration No. 40008130907), based at Kalnciema iela 47-1, Rīga, LV-1046, contact Aividss Švarcs. One of the two founding clubs (alongside Boule) whose 2008 registration marks the sport's organized start in Latvia.
• Biedrība sporta klubs "Boule" (registration No. 40008130911), based at Dienvidu iela 3 k-2-6, Salaspils, Salaspils novads, LV-2169, contact Ieviņa Dzenīte. The other founding club from 2008.
• Ventspils kērlinga klubs (registration No. 40008070580), based at Sporta iela 7/9, Ventspils, LV-3601, with a dedicated petanka section headed by Andris Padrevics - the same Andris Padrevics who competes internationally for Latvia (see International Results below).
• JRFPC "Upesciema Warriors" (registration No. 40008222008), a joint youth rugby, football, and petanka club based at Strauta iela 1B k-3-15, Upesciems, Garkalnes novads, LV-2137, contact Edgars Silovs, who also coaches Latvia's national doubles pairings.
• Sporta klubs "Petanks Ērģeme" (registration No. 40008257813), based at "Dambīši", Ērģemes pagasts, Valkas novads, LV-4711.
• SK Kangars, a newer club (registration No. 40008332825, registered January 2024) based at Parka iela 3-9, Zaķumuiža, Ropažu novads, contact Raivis Stepiņš. Kangars built new petanka courts at Grabji, Ropažu pagasts, which by 2026 were already hosting LPSF national-championship events (see Domestic Scene below).

We could not independently confirm a precise club-by-club membership count or a single authoritative "total number of affiliated clubs" figure for the LPSF; the list above reflects what could be verified from the federation's own published members page and public registry records.

Domestic Scene

The LPSF organizes national championships across multiple disciplines, including men's and women's singles, doubles, and triples, plus team and precision-shooting events. In 2026 the federation's calendar included the national precision-shooting championship (LČ TIR) on 28 June at SK Kangars' new courts in Grabji, Ropažu novads, the national triples championship on 4 July, the international Ventspils tournament on 24 July, a Baltic MIX tournament on 29 August at the Lucavsalas pétanque courts in Riga, and the Baltic Sea Cup for Clubs, held 12-13 September 2026 in Lithuania - a regional club competition for Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Finland (the 2025 edition, held in Tallinn, was won by Estonia's Tõrva petangiklubi). Latvia and Estonia also play an annual Eesti-Läti maavõistlus friendly international match.

Latvia's national men's doubles title has recently been dominated by Ventspils kērlinga klubs pair Raido Blumbergs and Andris Padrevics, whose 2025 national championship (their fourth doubles title together, per Ventspils-area news coverage) carried them into the 2025 CEP qualification pathway and on to the 2026 European Championship (see International Results below). Search results gave conflicting team and club counts for recent national doubles championships (different articles reported different totals depending on the year and category), so no specific field-size figure is stated here.

National Competition Calendar

The LPSF publishes its full season on the federation's own calendar page. The 2026 domestic season opens with the LČ mixed doubles championship (30 May, Ērģeme petanka courts, Valkas novads), followed by the Latvian Clubs Cup (6-7 June, Upesciema stadions), the LČ youth triples and veterans triples championship (13 June, SK Kangars courts, Ropažu pagasts), the LČ precision-shooting championship (LČ TIR) (28 June, SK Kangars courts, Grabji, Ropažu novads), and the LČ mixed triples championship (4 July, SK SBC Rīga petanka courts, Salaspils) - a separate event from the later single-gender triples championship. Midsummer brings the international Ventspils tournament (24 July) and the Baltic MIX tournament (29 August, Lucavsalas petanka courts, Rīga), before the season's two-round LČ men's and women's triples championship (5-6 September, Piedzīvojumu parka petanka courts, Ventspils), the regional Baltic Sea Cup for Clubs (12-13 September, hosted in Lithuania for 2026), and the Zelta Bumba tournament (26 September, Upesciema stadions) close out the domestic calendar. Latvia and Estonia also meet in the annual Eesti-Läti maavõistlus friendly international match, with the 2026 edition held 24 October in Viimsi, Estonia.

International Results

At the 2026 CEP European Championship in Lorca, Spain (18-21 June 2026), Latvia's women's doubles pairing of Lilita Dimarco and Ieva Anna Gulbe (coached by Edgars Silovs) and men's doubles pairing of Raido Blumbergs and Andris Padrevics (coached by Itallo Šromu) both competed, having qualified as Latvia's 2025 national doubles champions. The CEP's own published results confirm both pairs' full tournament paths across the event's two stages. In the opening five-round Swiss-system stage, which seeds the main Championship knockout bracket, Latvia's men finished last of 33 federations (1 win, a round 5 bye) after round-robin losses to the Czech Republic, Hungary, Jersey (a close 12-13 defeat in round 3, versus Andrew Bellamy-Burt and Toby Northern), and Bulgaria; the women's pair finished 30th of 32 (1 win, 13-6 over Guernsey in round 3) after defeats to Italy, Bulgaria, England, and Lithuania. Neither pair's Swiss-stage finish carried them into the main Championship bracket, but both were entered into the event's separate Nations Cup Doubles knockout for federations outside the top seeds: Latvia's women beat Estonia 13-1 and Greece 13-7 before losing the semifinal 13-6 to eventual Nations Cup runner-up Israel (Ukraine won the final 13-5), while Latvia did not field a pairing in the men's Nations Cup Doubles bracket.
